Cover Up the Goods

Hello Fabulous Ladies!

As my little one grows inside me, I've noticed that my shirts don't quite cover her living space as much as they used to. I 'm not sure if you ladies have experienced the same dilemma but I want to give a few tips to combat giving an unwanted peep show to the world.

First invest in a belly band. They extend the life of your pre pregnancy pants (great if you are having a fall pregnancy) and look like a shirt. Placing a belly band on gives you the confidence that your belly is fully covered.

Second, invest in spaghetti strap tanks. You can get them for fairly cheap at Old Navy, Target, and Forever21 plus. Get all the basic colors. I've been able to manage with a white one and a black one. I wear them under my shirts and they cover up my belly and compliment my shirts.

Finally I do a bit of camouflage by wearing cardigans, jackets, blazers, shawls, and boleros. Depending on the length I can button a few buttons near the base of my belly. Also if it is a shorter jacket, it can bring the attention upward to your beautiful face. To avoid an embarrassing show of flesh, be sure to adjust your clothing with every bathroom trip and when you stand up after sitting for a while.

Keep those goodies in the jar ladies. TTYL!!

Spotts are not Just on Dalamations!

What's up Ladies!

Ok, so the other night I was doing my normal after shower routine and noticed some invaders on my breasts! Moles! They shocked me so much that I said aloud "What in the world?!" After a call to my resident advice nurse (my wonderful mom) I calmed down. She explained that the new spot are normal and much to my delight they should fade away.

I have more spots on my face then the puppies from 101 Dalmatians! I've been using concealer and a green stick (green neutralizes the color red) to cut down on their appearances while in public. If you are experiencing the same dilemma, try using a gentle scrub at least twice a week and cleaning your makeup before you got to bed. I have also been experiencing some discoloration on my forehead. Just a general redness that resembles acne but without the bumps. The green stick helps with that too.

When I thought a nasty pimple was leasing space on my face I went to the bathroom mirror to investigate the situation. There was a dark line in it that resembled a hair. Turns out that's what it was and it was a stubborn one. I enlisted my sweety to help me remove the ingrown hair on my cheek.

I’m trying to be proactive about the possibility of bags and lines from sleepless nights so I "borrowed" (swiped from my mom's house) some samples of Estee Lauder and Mary Kay samples for eye cream. I have been putting it under my eyes on the nights I can remember. So far there are no lines so I 'm happy. I also swindled some dark spot treatment from my mom's house and have been using it on acne marks. I have had some dryness around my nose so I cut down on how much water I use on my face and ensure that I slather on a great moisturizer every morning and night.

Until next time, stay fabulous!

Fallin' for Cozy

Hey Ladies!

What says fall like crisp mornings, mild temperature days, and cozy sweaters? If you're like me the thought of a new wardrobe warms your blood and excites your senses. The trouble with fall maternity is the season's weather requires layering and in our physical state we don't want to add too much bulk. So I have been on the hunt for clothes that keep my tummy warm and fulfill my need for style.

I took a trip to the Thrift and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. Whole maternity suits, cute sweaters, nice slacks, fabulous winter coats and adorable dresses! The great thing about the Thrift is that a lot of them have discount days and membership benefits. I bought a great velvet blazer, spicy blouse, and a cute laid back sweater for less than $10! The thrift is a great place for basics and will help you transition from maternity clothing to your regular wardrobe. Oh and the baby clothes! My mom bought the little one six outfits and spent $5!

Motherhood Maternity is one of the least expensive maternity clothing designers and if you sign up for their email they have great benefits. They'll send you coupons for you and baby, hold items in your shopping basket, and tell you when they get new merchandise in. I checked out their fall line of dresses and they are soo cute. Can't wait to see them paired with colored tights and booties. By the way check out Gap.com and oldnavy.com for convenient outfit ideas.

Spanx has great panty hose and smooth out any lumps and bumps. Peruse around their website and you will find great ways to accentuate your figure and make every outfit fit well.

Tarjay (Target) has some nice outerwear designed by Liz Lange. She is a great designer who was gracious enough to create a more affordable line of maternity clothing for us fashionistas.

So grab a cup of hot coco and get to shopping ladies!

Shower Me

Hello Ladies!
Just wanted to chat a little about your baby shower ensemble. This will take some planning so start early. I purchased my outfit, a dress, from Forever 21's maternity line. I spent less than $30 and was pleased with the fit. I purchased one size up from their line as they run small. Because my chest isn’t as big as most pregnant women's I had to use a safety pin to keep the top closed. So if you have a couple of dollars to spare, I suggest ordering your outfit early and taking it to a seamstress to customize the fit. Most dry cleaners will have a seamstress on staff.

Onto foot jewelry, heels! I love the way they can quickly boost your confidence and make you figure gorgeous. In order for me to pull off this oh so sexy look I had to enact a plan of action. I practiced in my heels around the house. Now a fair warning, if your tootsies are swollen the shoes will be uncomfortable for a little while, but hang in there they do loosen up. As a precautionary measure I wore sandals out of the house and put my heels on once I got to the shower.

Jewelry, hair, and makeup...oh how I love to be a girl! Going minimal on your jewelry allows your face to take center stage. Indulge yourself and take a trip to the hair salon. Allow your tresses to be pampered and just relax. As far as makeup goes, I searched YouTube and found great tutorials. I suggest picking a celebrity or a makeup look you like and seeing if there is a tutorial on it. There are plenty of different interpretations so you'll be sure to find one that compliments your personality, outfit, and the occasion. You can usually use the make-up you already have, but most people post where they purchased their make-up. I found one on Jennifer Lopez's make-up and practiced the look a week before the shower. The trial run really helped as I could see how to better apply it on the day of the shower.

I also saved money by purchasing eye shadow from CVS. Drugstore eye shadow has a tendency to crease so invest in a good shadow base. I used MallyBeauty's eye shadow base on my lids then applied foundation on top. To add an extra layer of defense I used Too Faced's Shadow Insurance. I feel asleep with my make-up on (a big no no!) and the next morning my shadows looked as fresh as before! If you can splurge on a trip to the make-up counter for a professional make-over, go for it! Cameras will be flashing and you want to be sure that you feel confident to take each picture.

Posing. I know that there aren’t many ways a preggo woman can pose without looking large and in charge but I suggest sometime in the mirror before your shower. Try out some poses that you feel most comfortable in. Try some sitting and others standing. You'll notice if your outfit does funny things with different poses. You don’t want to look bunched up if at all possible.

Well trendy mommas, I'll catch up with you later! Stay haute!

Arr She Blows!!

Hi Mommies-to-be!

Today's blog is taking a step back on fashion and honing in on health instead. Two nights ago, my sweetheart and I were actively participating in our childbirth classes and I sprung a leak! I had gone to the ladies room just before it happened but I guess my body and mind were not on the same wave length. When I told my honey what happened he immediately said we should mention it to the instructor as I had also been experiencing horrible back pain for almost 24 hours.

After explaining my awkward and embarrassing predicament, the instructor suggested that I get evaluated. Since we were already at the hospital, I headed upstairs to get checked out. Oh and by the way if you have to got to the hospital for any reason, get food! We learned that lesson and my love went for a Mc Donald's run (I know, soo not healthy, but I was having a fat girl moment and he wanted to indulge me).

So after being hooked up to monitors and being asked a gazillion questions a test was administered on me. The nurse used a q-tip to test if the fluid was amniotic fluid. She explained that if my water had been broken I would have to stay in the hospital until I delivered! Not just day but weeks! I was already mentally planning my break out. Lol! Less than an hour later it was determined that all was well and I was given a clean bill of health.

Apparently I had a virus and the liquid was discharge. The first signs would have been an unusual odor, when asked I said I hadn't noticed one. Later my love told me he had, wonderful partner. The virus will be easily treated with antibiotics.Ok so background story done, lets get done to the moral of it. Pay attention to the scents your body emits, be knowledgeable about pre term labor signs, and always air on the side of caution. Its better to have the doctor tell you there is nothing wrong then to ignore signs and complicate your pregnancy.

Until next time moms, stay healthy!

The Hair of the Matter

Hello Cuties!
Are you realizing that your hair texture has changed? Are you tresses longer than before? Pregnancy affects your whole body in so many ways. How do you combat the newly found characteristics? The right hair, skin, and body care line up.

I was introduced to the Taliah Wajid Black Earth Products line a little over 3 years ago. I was experiencing dry scalp, rough hair, and my hair stopped growing. I began using her products and was amazed by the results. My hair was softer, easier to manage, had beautiful shine. The scent is awesome and the texture of the products lets you know you are using quality. As far as price goes, its inexpensive. You'll spend between $7-$13 for any of the items in the line. You can order her products online or find a local carrier on her website. www.naturalhair.org

The other day I scratched my head and it looked like a snow storm was happening in my little cubicle. Dry flakes! I was distraught because I knew I kept my hair well moisturized. I changed my facial wash and the flaking around my face calmed down. The old face wash left a residue that did not agree with my pregnancy hair line.

What's happens internally will definitely show up on you physically. It's important to focus on what you put in your body. So, you have to treat yourself well. Vitamins, water, and green tea with lemon, are a three pronged attack against lack luster hair. You can purchase decaffeinated green tea so that it is safe.

Roots showing? Is your hair looking multicolored? I know a lot of moms are concerned about if dying their hair will be harmful to the baby. After researching, the general consensus is to stay away from the dye in your first trimester. I've touched up my hair only once during my pregnancy and don't plan on doing it again until a month after my precious one's arrival. My suggestion is to ensure that you oil your hair as its texture may change form the dye and the additional hormones.

Take care of those beautiful tresses!

Au Natural

Hey Sensational Senoritas!

About a month ago, my big sister posted a video on my facebook wall. The video was of a young woman discussing Chris Rock's film Good Hair. She was reflecting on her own beliefs and discussing what she taught her daughters about the subject. That got my wheels spinning about the lessons I will pass on to my daughter. The debate of good and bad hair has raged on for centuries. From the time of the middle passage until now, African American people have conversed about what the terms really mean.

On the cover of beauty mags, glamorous Africa American women have straight, flowing, and most likely chemically treated hair. I must admit that as a teenager the images made me feel inadequate with my natural hair. I wanted a perm so bad because my aunt said I needed one, boys didn't like girls with natural hair, and my hair was a challenge to groom. Even with the feelings of inadequacy, I have always despised the terms good and bad hair. It bothers me to think that the mentality is passed down from generation to generation.

So having said all of that, what do I tell my daughter? The young woman in the video made a good point that good and bad hair isn't any particular state, be it natural or chemically treated. I think that the message I will give to her is to do to her hair what feels good to her. Ignore the fact mommy has locs and that the girls in school have straight hair. Focus on making your hair healthy and don't give it more importance than it deserves. Keep it clean and well maintained, don't be pressured to wear any hairstyle. I will never tell her that she needs a perm or that natural is the only way to go. We can discuss the benefits of both so that she can make an informed decision when she is old enough. Until then I'll leave her hair in its natural state so that she can have the option later.

In Chris Rock's film girls were getting perms as young as three years old! If you do something to permanently alter your child's hair you limit what they can do when its their decision.

As far as my hair journey goes, locs fit my lifestyle. I only had a perm for three years. Afterward I kept my hair in braids and cornrows. I've never been the kind of girl to get up early to do my hair so locs were a perfect solution. I can put oil in it and go!

However you choose to do your do, rock it to the fullest! TTYL!

What Other People Think of Me is None of My Business-Rupaul

Hey Curvaceous Mamasitas!

Ok. So since my pregnancy I've gotten mixed reviews on my appearance. I have had some that make me feel on top of the world and others that made me feel down in the dumps. What I've gathered from both is to live like Rupaul said, with complete disregard for people's negative comments and soak up all of the positivity. I've heard " I see you're getting fat" and "I just noticed you were pregnant (and I was 6 1/2 months preggo with a noticeable weight gain)".

Since my weight has always been an emotional and physical roller coaster ride, I promised myself that during my pregnancy I wouldn't pay attention to the scale and focus on my growing baby. But sometimes that's hard to do. So here's my suggestion to you when you noticed that your nose is widening or people say "I thought you may be pregnant but it looked like you were just getting fat", say my body is creating a comfortable space for my child. And if your sweetie can't console that fat feeling, understand that men may not understand that this is still our bodies and we want to feel good. My honey has the distinct way of making me feel sexy with the simplest words. So I've made those words affirmations and suggest that you create some of your own and stand naked in the mirror and marvel at your new curves.

Unfortunately they are a lot of rude people in the world and we have to encounter them. I've even had people comment on the time of year I conceived! The thing that helps me shake off all of the foolishness is to remember that something inside them is unhappy and we all know misery loves company.

So beautiful moms, if you don't hear it today...YOU ARE SOO FLY, SEXY, and GORGEOUS!!!

Head Over Heels

Hey Lactating Ladies!

So I was watching one of my fav movies the other day called Kinky Boots. I know it sounds naughty but its a British dramady (drama meets comedy). Its a great movie because in the end each character realizes that they have to be true to themselves and care for others around them. One of the lines really resonates with me. One of the leading characters is a drag queen and says that heels are "three inches of tubular sex". Ok so the line is kinda out there but the thought behind it is so true. Heels make a woman stand different, feel confident, and make her calves look awesome. But how do we preggers capture that feeling when our feet are swollen and the thought of standing in flats makes us wince in agony?!

Dr. Scholl's to the rescue! I have a closet full of heels and haven't worn any in months. I miss the great feeling of sliding into a killer pair of heels and modeling in front of my mirror. Between my career (social work) and my ever expanding feet I have to requalify my shoes as "sitting pretty shoes". These are the shoes that look way to good to sit in the closet but that you can only tolerate if you only sit when wearing them. I have been contemplating just how to pull of this venture. I'm going to share with you my plan of attack.

I plan on wearing heels to my baby shower and need to prepare for this venture. Thanks to a friend, I discovered that certain shoe stores will stretch shoes for you. My feet have always been wide so I was ecstatic to find this out. I think I 'm going to try this out at home. I'm going to wear the heels I plan on rocking for the shower for at least an hour a day to stretch them out. I'll place a shoe horn or something to retain the shape.

If my tootsies begin to scream I'll dip them in my foot bath and make use of the foot treatment kit I was given as a prize at a bridal shower. The foot bath I purchased from Walmart for less than $20! Then there is my personal masseuse, my honey. Hope my antics and possible discomfort spares you the same fate.

Until next time fashionistas, stay foxy!

All Dolled Up

Hey Regal Mommas!

I guess the world doesn't stop spinning just because your pregnant. There are still formal events and occasions to get all dolled up. During my pregnancy I have been invited to three events that require me to seriously plan what I will wear. I had to get an outfit to two weddings and a tea! Not an easy task considering there is a bump that can not be ignored.

So I did what I usually do, look on the Internet. I ordered a dress from Target and was quite disappointed. The designer was Moody Mammas and I can see being moody in the dress. It was poorly made and was no appropriate for any dress occasion. I didn't feel pretty at all. I sent it back.

I also made an unrelated trip to the thrift store and found a pink and purple cocktail dress. My mom found a tea dress at the thrift store months ago and at the time I couldn't picture an even to wear it to.

The key to being all dolled up is to pay attention to fit, practice in your heels, and go soft with your make-up. The wrong dress can make you look like you have an engorged beer belly. So be open to trying the dress on and give it a spin. Sit down in it, practice poses, and see where it hits with your heels. I wore the pink and purple cocktail dress to a wedding and got compliments. I wore a flower in my hair and minimal jewelry to allow the dress and my new body to take center stage.

Your feet are not what they used to be, so practice in your heels. You may need to take a trip to Paylay (Payless) and get a different size for the occasion. Allow your pregnancy glow be the focus of your make-up. Choose delicate colors and soft lips. Your bump makes you beautiful and you don't need too much to dress it up.

I'll post pictures of both outfits, hope it inspires you! Can't wait till our next chat!

Is That Pool Water?

Hey Pretty Ladies,

The first time I witnessed stretch marks was on a visit to my grandmother's house. I used to love to share the same bed with her, watch tv, and chat about anything and everything. On one visit I watched her as she got out of the bed and noticed lines on her back and legs. In my innocence I asked "Grandma, why do you have pool water on your body?" She laughed and as I got older I realized that those same lines were on me and the were the evil and dreaded stretch marks!

So what's a girl to do when her skin has to stretch in order to make room for a baby? Are we doomed to live with these wretched invaders? Nope! My advisor told me about a great cream called Mother's Friend Body Skin Cream. You can purchase it at amazon.com. I rub it on my stomach, but, and upper legs. Also I'm not sure if its just an old wives's tale but I've been told not to scratch anywhere. Apparently scratching causes stretch marks. I just gently rub when I get the sensation to scratch. So far these methods have kept the preggo stretch marks at bay.

If you can't afford the cream, my suggestion would be to keep your skin moisturized. Invest in a really good lotion and incorporate coco butter into your morning and night regimen. Now go out and fight the good fight. Say it with me No Stretch Marks!

Her Cup Runeth Over

Hey Buxom Beauties!
So as our bodies change there are some parts of us that requires special attention. Our breasts and bottoms. They are ever expanding and need the proper support. So that means investing a good bra and comfy undies.

I must admit I was a bit hesitant on purchasing maternity under wear. I thought to myself " Who wants to wear granny panties?". But I'm glad I took a look at the Motherhood Maternity lingerie section. I purchased two packs of maternity underwear. I picked up some boy shorts and thongs. Though the designs are far from Vickie's (Victoria's Secret), they are cute and don't make me feel like I'm 84 years old. I would personally recommend the boy shorts over the thongs. They are both made of cotton and have extra stretch in them. The boy short just feels better. The price wasn't half bad either. I spent less than $15 on each pack and it was worth the cost.I don't know about you but I definitely do not miss the wedgies from my pre maternity under wear. And my honey sends his compliments to motherhood maternity.

On to the over the shoulder bolder holder, better known as a bra. Its seems the fashion industry takes advantage of our vulnerable population. They charge exorbitant prices for things they know we need and is hard to substitute. I haven't purchased a maternity/nursing bra yet but judging by the rapid growth I need to get to a store asap! So I took to the Internet to do some price comparisons. Motherhood.com has the best prices. The price range on their bras are $13-$22. Target.com has some pretty good prices you can spend $58 on one of theirs. A Pea in the Pod must be out of their minds with their prices! I won't even mention their price range.

I'll be ordering two this weekend and will report back my experience. Happy Lingerie Shopping! TTYL!

One and Two and Switch!

Hey Haute Moms!
The subject for today's chat is exercise. The first thing I think of when picturing exercise is that episode of Martin when he took over the instruction of Gina's fitness class. He had them worn out with his aerobic shenanigans. I got a workout from the belly laughs. He is so crazy!

The thought of working out makes me tired even though I know I'm supposed to. I've read countless times that exercise during pregnancy will reduce achiness, boost energy, and keep you healthy. But how can I get those benefits if I'm too tired to get off my butt?

I bought two exercise DVDs and they are gathering dust. I have to walk a couple blocks from the parking lot to my building and have four flights of stairs in my house, but I still feel like I need to do more. The other day I let a three year old wear me out! But as we were bending, stretching, and running I felt good and full of energy. So I decided I wanted to hold on to that feeling without causing more soreness. I've been walking more and made use of Youtube. Youtube has got a lot of videos on prenatal yoga. I love the peaceful feeling and the stretches feel nice.

I've enlisted my sweety in my exercise quest. He has even offered to walk with me! I'm such a lucky girl. If you can find a partner in crime to work out with, they can be great motivators.

Before I was preparing for motherhood, I was on a self discovery and self esteem boosting mission. I lost weight and began to exercise more. My favorite form of exercise was exotic fitness. I felt sexy and confident. Now that I've got extra curves I thought that that form of exercise was best left for after my little one arrives. But thanks to the invention of facebook, I saw a classmate of mine teaching an exotic fitness class while pregnant! Go girl! So if you feel like learning a seductive move or two and want a fun work out, google local exotic fitness gyms.

So get off your newly round rump and break a sweat in some cute work out apparel! Can't wait till our next chat.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Hey Stunningly Beautiful Moms to Be!

Ok so the last four weeks have been like a mini baby bootcamp for me. I've been sharpening my parental skills and all though its great to train, I must admit I find myself missing just taking care of me. So that got me to thinking, in two months this will be a permanent change and I need a framework adjustment. The short time period was a scary reality.

I was reading in maternity fashion book (Bump It Up), that month seven is time to focus on Mommy. Its a great bit of sound advice. So I began searching for things that would help me take care of me. Then I realized, I already know what makes me happy and feel good. Bubble baths, glamour, trips to the spa, exercise, and a new hair do! So why not indulge now? I wont have to worry about childcare while I pamper myself for a while so I might as well take advantage of this time.

I researched the safety of massage during pregnancy and discovered that as long as you are out of your first trimester and seek out a prenatal massage its safe. I looked at a couple of videos on youtube and liked what I saw. For your comfort you will be instructed to lay on your side. The massage doesn't require you to be completely nude and you can always request a female masseuse. The masseuse will ensure that they are careful to properly and safely relax your body. Some spas have special packages just for expecting moms so get to searching. I'll let you know how my trip goes!

With the ever changing looks and performances, my skin likes to show these days, a facial is a necessity. I make myself give myself a scrub and a mask every Saturday or Sunday. But every once in a while it would be nice to lay back and be pampered. Let the esthetician know that you are expecting and whatever skin changes you have been experiencing. Breath in the relaxing oils and drift away.

So am I the only mom is planning her baby shower outfit over a month in advance? I want to look cute even if I don't feel it. I told my honey that I wanted a new dress and high heeled boots and he looked at me puzzled. I guess I cant expect for a man to understand our desire to feel stylish at every stage of our pregnancy. With the cameras flashing and dozens of eyes staring, I want to feel confident. So I've been shopping my closet and will soon hit up my fave places to shop. I even plan on getting falsies (false eyelashes) for the occasion!

Moral of the story is, indulge now. Shortly you will have a joy that will take up some of your me time. So mission one for this beauty with a bump is to find a spa asap! 'Till next time stay gorgeous.

Reuse and Recycle!

Hey Fashionistas!

Just wanted to pass on a quick bit of advice. The other day I discovered two shirts in my own wardrobe that did not compliment my figure well before I was pregnant. When I tried them on recently, they were perfect! What once made me look like a tent and pregnant now makes me look like a maternity fashion expert. The moral of the story is, reframe items in your wardrobe, give them other uses, and be open to stretching your dollar and wardrobe.

Have a trapeze top?! They look great on your new figure and are incredibly comfortable. Have a dress that seems to be getting shorter and shorter? Pair it with a pair of skinnies or some leggings. Also, most fashion experts will tell you to stay away from your husband's wardrobe, but I believe there are treasures to be found. Fight the urge to wear his sweats and t-shirts but work his oxfords (button ups). Can you imagine how stylish you'll look in his belted oxford, a pair of leggings, layered necklaces, and some sexy pumps?! Fierce!

Also be open to browsing around Wally's World (My baby's nickname for Walmart)and local discount marts (Dollar General, Discount Mart, Lots) for inexpensive tops and dresses. I walked into one the other day and was pleasantly surprised. The discount store had cute maxi dresses for $10 and under! Their great for pregnancy because they cut down on outfit decision time, make you look tres feminine, and it wont matter if it doesn't look as good after a couple washes (just toss it out or add it to your pj pile).

Until next time my dears. Happy Savvy Shopping!

Bathin' Beauty

Hey Mammas!
So this summer has been hot! hot!hot! With this extra weight and newly found places that sweat, I have been looking for ways to stay cool. In my quest to stay out of the hellasious (yes that's a made up word)heat, I have found some methods to reduce the the amount of discomfort.

I guess I should warn you that preparation for the heat does take a little pre-planning but its well worth it. First, place two water bottles in the freezer every night. Cool water through out the day helps to stay cool, stay healthy, and keep from melting. Next, when you wake up, soak a wash cloth in ice cold water and ring it out. Place the wash cloth in a sandwich bag and pop it in the freezer until you're ready to head out the door. This can be used as a refresher throughout the day. You can place it on your forehead or to cool other sweating places. Also you can purchase a spritz for your face. I like the mist from mark. You can make your own, by mosing down to your local dollar store and purchasing a spray bottle. Fill it with water, put a couple lemon and cucumber slices in it, and you will be good to go. Its great for a quick cool down and to wake you up when you're about to nodd off.

Summer is the perfect time to invest in feminine wipes. You don't have to spend money on the name brand, the generic gets the job done. You can clean away sweat and add a hint of freshness. Also purchase a travel size stick of deodorant along with an extra pair of panties and leave it at the office.Invest in a good sun screen. Also got for light fragrances and keep a mini bottle of your favorite fragrance or get a vile of body oil.

Make-up sliding off your face? Do you look like you are melting? Invest in a great primer, switch to mineral foundation, find blotting sheets or powder, and give your skin a rest for a least two days a week.

Now...onto summer fun!The amusement park first peaked my interest, then the thought of being restricted to the wave pool and walking around a huge park shot that down (although I still have a slight urge to go). So the next best thing would be to hit the swimming pool. But what would I wear?!

I researched maternity bathing suits and wasn't impressed. I then took a looky loo on Target's website and liked what I saw. Since I plan on laying pool side this weekend I took a trip to Target yesterday. I tried on two tops and a bottom from the Liz Lange Maternity line. The fit was true to size and made me feel confident. I didn't want to look like a sack of potatoes! After I got the vote of approval from my sweetie and his mini me, I decided to get it. Now I must warn you that even though the bathing suit was from Tar-jay(Target), it was still a little bit pricey. They sold the pieces separately and individually each piece was about $22. I spent almost $50 on a bathing suit that will only compliment my figure while its hosting a little one!

As for cover ups, you can always find cute ones on motherhood.com, oldnavy.com, and target.com. Or you can save money by perusing the thrift for a cute sundress, shorts, or a breezy top. My mom just made a trip there and bought me a nice pair of jean shorts and an adorable baby doll top.

Check back for pics of the bathing suit! Stay cool!

Au' Casual

Hello Gorgeous!
Who says pregnant can't be stylish and sexy? Definitely not me! I have been determined to stay true to my sense of style as much as possible. In an attempt to play up the features I like about myself I bought body conscious clothing. So I wanted to showcase some great Friday at work, Saturday at play, or brunch on Sunday outfits. The key to looking fab is to play up your new curves, create a waist, and play with color.
The outfits featured are from Old Navy and the thrift store. Both sweaters, the pink shirt, and leggings are from Old Navy. The black collared shirt and skinnies are from the thrift.
Happy Shopping!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

Hey Beauties with a Bump!

Just had to fill you in a great fashion discovery my sister told me about. Forever 21now has a maternity line! Forever 21 is famous for providing inexpensive fashion for young women. I checked out the website and saw that you will probably have to stick to purchasing the clothes online as there are not many stores carrying it. The line only has a couple pieces right now but they are trendy, cute, and affordable. I plan on purchasing a few items and will give a review. Until then...happy shopping!

Workin' 9-5

Hello Hard Workin' Ladies!
Its been a challenge to stay comfortable yet appropriate for work. But after browsing both my pre maternity and maternity clothes, I've found a couple outfits that are office chic and easy on my growing figure. A few tips to creating outfits that are business appropriate are to purchase staple pieces i.e. black pencil skirt, white dress shirt, black slacks, belts, khakis, swing jackets, shift dresses, and cute cardigans. These pieces you can mix and match, which saves you money. I have displayed a couple of my work outfits and will upload more soon.

To avoid looking like a sack of potatoes, I accentuate and create a waist. This can be done by buttoning a few buttons on your foxy cardi or by adding a belt just beneath your breast and above your bump. Also when purchasing maternity attire, look for tops and dresses that have an empire waist and create a clear delineation from your breasts and bump.

I purchased both dresses, shirt, and skirt from the thrift store. The swing jacket and belt where apart of my pre maternity wardrobe. The cardigan I purchased from oldnavy.com in their maternity section. What I like about the green striped dress is that is versatile. With the right accessories you can wear it to work or a fun weekend activity.

Check back soon for more outfit ideas!

So Fresh and So Clean

Hello Divas!

Today I want to chat with you about our upkeep and maintenance of this beautiful temple that is preparing to spring fourth life. First I have to start out by confessing about my neglect of my own up keep. The other day I had a doc's appointment and wore a really cute cardi and dress. I felt confident and cute. That was until I looked down at my legs and realized that they looked like the trunks of a 15 year old boy! I couldn't remember the last time I shaved my legs. And whilst I examined my legs, I noticed I had crust on my toes! Oh how embarrassed and unkempt I felt!

So I decided that it was time for a tune up. I was neglecting taking care of my body because of fatigue, attempting to save money, and just plum forgetting to do it! But what I learned is that upkeep is not just for vanity purposes but also serves as hygiene maintenance.

Shaving: I don't know about you, but since I have become pregnant, I realized that I sweat more. I rarely would sweat before but boy can I pour buckets now. Which means that is completely necessary to keep all bodily hair trimmed. Its not a pretty site when you mix sweat and hair. Since pregnant women have hormones gone haywire, we a re prone to yeast infections. All though we can't avoid them completely, we can take steps to keep them at bay. If you're like me, its becoming increasingly challenging to shave as there is a belly that is increasing in size. And for that may I recommend enlisting assistance, shaving outside of the shower with your leg propped on the toilet or a chair, and waxing.

Mani/Pedi: Needed for both upkeep and just a temporary vaca. My nails looked like a garbled mess and my toes...let's not go there. I was nervous about frequenting to nail salon because of the fumes. But after searching my neighborhood, I've found two salons were there is little to no fumes and they have adequate sanitation practices. I feel like a lady now. I try to stick to light colors on my fingernails so that if it begins to chip before I can get another mani, its less noticeable.

Eyebrows: In one word...Bert. You don't want to look like a Sesame Street character! To cut down on cost invest in a good pair of tweezers and pluck stray hairs in between visits to the salon. You don't realize how much your eyebrows play apart in how fantabolous you look and feel and until they haven't been groomed after a long time.

Flower Power

Hello Mom's to Be!
I want to chat about how the simple things can enhance our physical appearance and boost our self esteem. This morning I woke up and realized that my face had gotten fatter, and the love of my life kindly said " I don't notice it...but babe you are pregnant". In his sweet way he was trying to console me but I could tell he didn't understand. The mirror showed a reflection that I wasn't comfortable with and I needed a pick me up fast, as I had a doctor's appointment and work to think about. So I went straight to my accessories corner. I grabbed a headband that matched my outfit perfectly and placed pearls on my wrist. The accessories massaged my bruised self esteem and I walked out of our bedroom with a smile.

Moral of the story is accessories are great remedies to not so great days and nights. Since I've been pregnant, I've purchased flowers to wear in my hair, switched my handbags more frequently, and bought a couple of inexpensive jewelry pieces.

Flowers: Theses are a great way to add that extra touch of femininity. I wear them in my hair and pin them to my clothes. You can find them cheap at hottopic.com and forever21.com.

Handbags: I had been in a rut and carried the same bag for two weeks. This morning I changed it and felt like a stylish lady. I got a compliment on the bag and decided it felt good to give myself an extra 5 minutes in the morning to switch handbags.

Jewelry: Stick to buying earrings, stretch bracelets, necklaces. I've noticed that my fingers are swollen and its getting increasingly harder to put on non stretch bracelets. So save yourself the disappointment and buy what will fit now.

Blushin' Beauty

Hey Beautiful Ladies!
Today's discussion will focus on affordable make-up. Make-up is a trusty companion for those days when you look and feel tired, don't feel as attractive, or have a sudden breakout. The brands I love and frequently use are: Mary Kay, Mally, Flirt, mark by Avon and Philosophy. I am working on a five minute make-up look so that I can get to work on time and still feel put together. Ok so on to my reviews of the make-up!

ELF (Eyes Lips Face)Cosmetics: I've only tried their blotting sheets but I've heard rave reviews. The company provides inexpensive cosmetics, tools, and bath and body products. The price range is from $1-$100, with the bulk of the items being under $10Through my research of youtube and the web, most women prefer their Studio Line. You can purchase their products online on their website. EyesLipsFace.com

mark by Avon: Great inexpensive make-up that is dependable. I love using their skin care products and their cosmetics are equally great. I've tried their foundation, blush, and lip glosses. I love how the lip glosses allow you to hook 2 together because I like to combine colors. Their interchangeable and the connector can be used over and over again. You can customize palettes and find great looks on their website. The great part is that you don't have to wait for your consultant to bring it to you, you can simply place your order online and she'll get the credit.

Flirt: I bought a great tube of lip gloss 2 years ago and forgot about the line until a recent trip to Kohl's sparked my interest again. Their products are a little more expensive then if you bought them in a drugstore but they are worth it. I love their color selection for lip gloss and lip pencils. They give a great amount of product in the crank up tube and the lip gloss lasts! I 've also tried their blush and was pleased. You can purchase their products at Kohls and kohls.com. You can view their products at flirtcosmetics.com

Philosophy: The only product I've tried is their primer and so far so good. I like it's light weight feel and a little bit of product goes a long away.I have tried it without make-up and really didn't see a difference. Their primer is a lot more affordable then most. I was even able to break up the payments on qvc.com.

Mary Kay: You'll spend a pretty penny on their products but you will never be disappointed. I love their mineral foundation and use their concealer religiously. I really like their lip glosses and mascara. The mascara does amazing things for women like me because I have close to invisible eyelashes. You can view their products online and find a consultant too.

Mally: Celebrity make-up artist turned cosmetic guru! I love her products and their packaging. Her claim to fame is the fact that the make-up is bullet proof, which is true. With one or two extra steps you can be a flawless beauty in the morning and into the night. I lover blush, eye shadows, eye brow products, mascara, primer, eye lash curler, and perfume. The packaging is a girly as it gets and it always feels like you're getting a gift. You can purchase her line at mallycosmetics.com or qvc.com

We Wear the Mask

Hello Beauties! Today's topic is skin care. I don't know about you but since my pregnancy, I've had a roller coaster of skin conditions. I broke out with ugly red pimples, then my skin was as dry as the Sahara, and faint redness is in the middle of my forehead. With all of the information of being careful of what skin products you use it's kind of hard to find what will do the job and be safe. I think I've found a great combination to keep my skin looking healthy.

The first thing to understand is that its not just products that keep your skin glowing, its what you put in your body and what you put your body through. As we already know water is essential to pregnancy, but its also the cornerstone of any skin care regimen. I try my best to only drink water while at work and allow myself two drinks other than water a day. Also sleep. I'm finding this more and more challenging as its hard to get comfortable. I do however take any opportunity I can to nap and try to unwind earlier so I'll be sleep earlier.

Next I assessed what my skin needed. I monitored when it was oily or dry and when I have break outs. Then I was able to create a skin care cocktail that I like. I use Mark by Avon and Mary Kay.The product descriptions are listed below. I push myself to not go to bed with make-up on and use a mask at least twice a week. I also wash my face twice at night to ensure that all of the make-up is off of my skin. On the days I apply a mask, I'll wash my face before or during my shower and apply the mask immediately after. I'll continue with my bathing routine and leave it on for at least 10-12min.

Moisturize and protect. Invest in a moisturizer for the day and night. Your day moisturizer should have sunscreen. Also protect yourself from germs. I don't wash my face with a wash cloth as it can grow germs from the moisture. I use cotton rounds instead.

Products I use:

Loungin' Beauty

Today's topic is staying comfortable without feeling frumpy. The key to doing this to have the right fit. Although it may sound strange, go for more form fitting attire. Pack up those sweat pants that have lost their elastic and that run down shirt from undergrad. Invest in some maternity tanks and yoga pants. I know that is seems more economical to wear your husband's t-shirts but you'll give yourself a self esteem boost if even in your lounge wear and with no make-up you look fit and foxy!

I found great lounge pants at the thrift by way of Old Navy. I bought two pairs for under $10.00! My sister bought me two spaghetti strap tank tops from the plus size section of Forever 21 to wear under my rib knit tanks. I also purchased rib knit tanks from Old Navy. They have lots of colors to choose from. They even offer the tanks with embellishments that you can pair with a pair of skinnies and a blazer.

I feel cute and comfy while I'm running my errands and traveling. Trust me when I say to spend some time on your appearance now while you've got the energy and time.

Where to Find Great Maternity Fashion

When I began to look for maternity clothes, I realized that the bulk of it fell into two categories. Either it was over priced or made you look frumpy. This of course left me feeling distraught, until my genius mother went to the thrift store and came home with bags of clothes for me. This re energized my motivation to still feel like me while preparing for a great change in my life.
The thrift store is a great place to find designer fashion for less. Most thrift stores now have a maternity section because a lot of women get rid of their maternity clothes having no longer a need for them. I have purchased several pairs of pants, dresses, skirts, and really nice shirts. I even found maternity skinny jeans!
The best advice to thrift shopping is to go in with an open mind and don't come in with anything particular item in mind. Try clothes on before you leave because most thrift stores are final sale (this may require a team effort if the store doesn't have dressing rooms. You may want to enlist a family member or a friend to cover you while you try on). Ask a sales associate if they have half off days or discount cards so that you can really rack up on the savings. Invest in Dryell so that you can dry clean the items that need it in the convenience of your home. When I get home from a great day "at the thrift" (my chic name for the thrift store) I throw the clothes in the washing machine and hang dry when ready. I can go to the thrift and come out with 6 items for under $50.00.
Although the bulk of my experience with Motherhood Maternity has been via the thrift, I like what they have to offer. The store offers a selection of clothes that allow you to be just as fashionable in maternity clothes as you were before your bump arrived. I invested in some of their underwear and am greatful I did. I dont like the fit of their plain tees or polos but their dresses fit like a dream and show off your sexy curves.
Next on the list for great maternity wear is Old Navy! I absolutely love their online maternity shop. They have great pieces that are interchangeable and can stretch your wardrobe. The website also has pictures of suggestions on how to wear the items. There is almost always a sale and if you sign up for their email list, they'll send you the latest sale info and extra savings! A lot of their maternity items can only be returned or exchanged via the mail. Their returns and exchange process runs smoothly. I check their website every week, and am never disappointed.
Check out the plus size section of Forever 21. My sister bought me four shirts from there and I was so happy to receive them. They added the young flair with great fit that I was looking for.
Finally I would suggest shopping your own closet. Especially if you have a summer pregnancy. I have been putting my pre pregnancy wardrobe to work. Sun dresses make the best maternity dresses. They're cool, cute, and you don't have to spend any additional money on clothes you already have. I have also tried to recreate some of favorite outfits with maternity clothes.

The Need for Maternity Fashion Talk

Ok, so in my quest to prepare to become a mom I've done a lot of research. What to eat, how much exercise, and making doctor's appointments. Within the first three months of my pregnancy, I found myself forgetting about me. I was concerned about what my family would think, how the pregnancy would effect my relationship, and how my job would respond. In forgetting about me, I stopped doing a lot of things that made me feel like me, because I thought it would be selfish.

Then while being in a rut, I realized that a happy mom makes a happy baby. So I started paying attention to my hair, make-up, and clothes. I used to love browsing through fashion mags and trying out looks... hard to do when the models don't have a baby bump. So youtube and the book Bump It! became my fashion consultants. But I am still not getting my fix so I figured I'd start a blog and reach out to other preggo ladies.

I'll be posting pics, tips, and opening the floor for comments and questions. So I hope all of you moms to be enjoy!
